Preventive Dentistry
Avoiding dental decay requires adherence to a dental hygiene regimen. Brushing twice a day, in conjunction with regular dental checkups, diet counseling, and fluoride treatment are all key in achieving this goal. Regular visits to our office can prevent unhealthy teeth and costly treatment down the road. Creating a tailored treatment plan specific to your child’s age and ability, we will review brushing and flossing, diet, and fluoride use.
Restorative Dentistry
White Fillings - A composite (white) filling involves using a tooth-coloured resin material to fill small cavities in teeth. These fillings match the color of natural tooth structure and are very esthetic. They require the most minimal tooth preparation and are the material of choice in our practice for small to moderate-sized fillings.
Stainless Steel Crowns - A silver crown covers the tooth completely and restores it to its original shape and size. Crowns are incredibly strong and provide the necessary protection for any baby tooth that has had root canal therapy and needs structural reinforcement.
Sealants - Sealants are placed in a thin layer on select tooth surfaces by using a resilient resin material designed to stick to the enamel, specifically over grooves where food can collect. Sealants reduce the risk of cavities forming in these narrow grooves that can be difficult to keep clean.
Sports Injury Prevention
If your child participates in contact sports, wearing an athletic mouth guard can help prevent serious tooth and jaw injuries. Custom mouth guards can be fabricated once your child loses all of his or her primary teeth, resulting in the best fit.
Treatment of Children With Disabilities
At Dentistry for Children, we see many children with disabilities for their dental needs, and will tailor each visit to best suit your child's needs.
Sleep Dentistry
In certain circumstances, children who are medically compromised or extremely anxious may need to be treated under general anesthesia to ensure a safe clinical environment. We offer this option of treatment in a hospital setting, where care is provided while your child is completely asleep from medication administered by an anesthesiologist.
Emergencies
Children often experience accidents and injuries to the teeth and soft tissues of the mouth. At Dentistry for Children, these situations are given priority in our office, as pain management is of utmost importance, and in cases of trauma, the earlier treatment is received generally means a better prognosis and healing process. If an emergency arises, please call our office immediately so that your child can be attended to promptly.
Free Examinations for Kids 2 and Under
At Dentistry for Children, we believe it’s so important to get an early start to good oral health that we offer free check-ups to all children two years of age and younger. We value these visits, as early preventive and interceptive treatment can dramatically reduce the chance that your child will ever need a filling or braces.
Evening Hours Available
Our office offers evening appointment times to accommodate those families with busy or inflexible daytime schedules, thus minimizing disruption to regular routine.
